Maybe this will help someone but when I want switch the controller to the #1 slot I just hold down the ps button on the controller and switch it from that menu. It seems the much faster easy to do it. Are you able to force it forever at #1 the way you are doing it? Cuz the other way it will revert back to the wheel at #1 when you shutdown the ps3.
